Age 55, of Corning, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 20, 2010.

The family will receive friends and relatives at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen, on Thursday, from 2-4 and 6-8pm; a funeral service will be held the following morning at 10am at the funeral home; Rev. Ronald L. Murphy officiating; burial at Hector Presbyterian Cemetery with military honors.

John was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Miriam Murphy, and sister Martha Murphy. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Joshua and Rosa Murphy; loving companion, Lisa Lamberti; brothers and sisters, Paul (Lynda) Murphy, Ronald (Martha) Murphy, Phyllis (Warren) Palmer, Mark (Diann) Murphy, Gene (Martha) Murphy, Mary (Frank) Smalley, Carol (David) Armstrong, and Larry Murphy; and many nieces and nephews.
John served with the US Postal Service for 24 years; most recently as Postmaster for Pine City, NY. John was the youngest of 10 children. He graduated from Watkins Glen Central School in 1972 and served with the US Navy and later US Army.
